Dalir og hólar 2012 – Ferð (A Journey) is an exhibition project which uses abandoned houses and / or open spaces at eclectic sites in western Iceland, Reyhólar Commune and Dalir Commune. The theme of the 2012 Exhibition Project is A Journey. In the contemporary art and literature the meaning of ‘journey’ may be transposed: the journey in question may not be tangible but instead allude to a mental state, a journey of the imagination or a displacement of some sort.
The impetus for the project is the desire to engage in a discourse with the people of this remote area, to contribute to local culture, and to imbibe the area’s spectacular scenery.
Furthermore the project wishes to encourage tourists and other visitors to come enjoy the landscape and culture of the Breiðafjörður region. The exhibition sites are spread along the area Reykhola- Commune (Reykhólasveit) – Dala-Commune (Dalabyggð) and the project is in collaboration with individuals and institutions within the area. The exhibition thus invites visitors to travel around the area through the positioning of the work in different locations. The catalogue for the exhibition is at the same time a site map of the area and a guidebook for the exhibition- see the Dalir og hólar website.
The exhibition lasts from the 30th June until the 29th July 2012.
The Exhibition Project Dalir og hólar 2012 – A Journey
is made possible by the generous contribution of the artists and the local owners of the sites occupied by the artworks. Also by the support of The West Iceland Cultural Council, The Assosiation of Ólafsdalur, The Dala Commune/The Museum in Sælingsdal, the Reykhóla Commune, Eyjasigling and The Danish State Art Council.
